Adoration

Congregational Singing:

Come Let Us Return

Come, let us return

to the Lord, our God,

for He has torn our hearts,

to heal us in the end,

our bruises He will mend.

Come, out of the dark,

to the glorious light.

Together we’ll be raised,

beyond the reign of night,

to live within His sight.

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

Now, sure as the dawn,

comes the mighty King.

His glory is revealed,

the bursting forth of spring,

inviting us to sing.

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

Come, let us return

to the Lord, our God,

for He has torn our hearts,

to heal us in the end,

our bruises He will mend.

Call to Worship

Psalm 145:1-13

Pastor: I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

People: Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

Pastor: One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

People: They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

Pastor: The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

People: The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

Pastor: All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power,

People: to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

Prayer of INvocation

Congregational Singing:

Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken

Jesus, I my cross have taken,

all to leave and follow Thee.

Destitute, despised, forsaken,

Thou from hence my all shall be.

Perish every fond ambition,

all I’ve sought or hoped or known.

Yet how rich is my condition!

God and heaven are still my own.

Let the world despise and leave me,

they have left my Savior, too.

Human hearts and looks deceive me;

Thou art not, like them, untrue.

O while Thou dost smile upon me,

God of wisdom, love, and might,

foes may hate and friends disown me,

show Thy face and all is bright.

Man may trouble and distress me,

‘twill but drive me to Thy breast.

Life with trials hard may press me;

heaven will bring me sweeter rest.

Oh, ’tis not in grief to harm me

while Thy love is left to me;

Oh, ’twere not in joy to charm me,

were that joy unmixed with Thee.

Haste thee on from grace to glory,

armed by faith and winged by prayer.

Heaven’s eternal days before thee,

God’s own hand shall guide us there.

Soon shall close thy earthly mission,

soon shall pass thy pilgrim days,

hope shall change to glad fruition,

faith to sight, and prayer to praise.

Come and See

Lost in darkness in selfishness and pride

all rebellious and blinded from the light.

We made idols in hopes that they would save

all while running far away from grace.

Then He called us out of darkness

into His wondrous light.

Yes, He called us out of darkness

into His wondrous light.

Come and see,

come and see

come and see,

what the Lord has done for us.

Oh proclaim,

all you saints

Oh proclaim

all the wonders of His love

Though once strangers now we are made His own

founded solely on Christ the Cornerstone.

Now the church stands as a chosen race

a holy people called to bear His name.

Come and see,

come and see

come and see,

what the Lord has done for us.

Oh proclaim,

all you saints

Oh proclaim

all the wonders of His love

Know God and Make Him Known, Part I

Matthew 5:5-29

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

5 These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. 9 Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, 10 no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food. 11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. 12 As you enter the house, greet it. 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. 15 Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

Persecution Will Come

16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

24 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.

Have No Fear

26 “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Not Peace, but a Sword

34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Congregational Singing:

For All the Saints

For all the saints

who from their labors rest,

who Thee by faith

before the world confessed,

Thy Name, O Jesus,

be forever blest: Alleluia! Allelu...

Thou wast their rock,

their fortress, and their might;

Thou, Lord, their captain

in the well-fought fight;

Thou, in the darkness drear,

their one true light: Alleluia! Allelu...

O may Thy soldiers,

faithful, true, and bold,

fight as the saints

who nobly fought of old,

and win with them

the victor’s crown of gold:

Alleluia! Allelu...

The golden evening

brightens in the west;

soon, soon to faithful

warriors comes their rest;

sweet is the calm

of paradise the blest:

Alleluia! Allelu...

But lo! There breaks

a yet more glorious day:

the saints triumphant

rise in bright array;

the King of glory

passes on His way:

Alleluia! Allelu...

From earth's wide bounds,

from ocean's farthest coast,

through gates of pearl

streams in the countless host,

singing to Father,

Son, and Holy Ghost:

Alleluia! Alleluia!
