Resources

Welcome! If you have been visiting this resource page frequently, you may notice that the content is changing a bit. First, a little background: this is a page where we offer some ideas for individual Bible study. (If you are a part of a discipleship group or a Bible study, you may already have a regular Bible-reading plan—and some accountability!)

If you are looking for ideas for personal study (whether or not you are in other groups), starting this month, we will be encouraging you to start a Bible-reading plan—rather than jumping around by topic, as we had been doing.

I can already hear some questions: “But it’s August!? Shouldn’t we start a new plan at the beginning of the year?” Well...sure! But anytime there’s a change of season (or situation, like the new school year) is a great time to start a new habit. So then when 2022 rolls around, you can keep going with the plan you love or try something new!

Here are four options for regular reading through books of the Bible—or the whole thing!

  1. The 5 x 5 x 5 Bible Reading plan: Read through the New Testament in a year. Read 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week, and 5 ways to dig deeper. Straight-forward, low-tech (simply print off the plan), and a manageable way to get started reading the Bible (most) days.

  2. Free Daily Bible Study: Daily reflections on the unfolding story of the Bible, based on the M'Cheyne Bible Reading Plan. You can receive the daily 4-min devotionals in your email or via podcast. There’s an option to simply read the passage related to the daily devotion OR read the other passages of the M’Cheyne Bible reading plan as well, which would get you through the Bible in a year. The devotional content is gospel-centered and thought-provoking.

  3. The Dwell Bible Reading App. This app reads the Bible to you (and you can follow along) and includes lots of different plans for reading. It is a paid subscription ($30 for the year), but can at least offer my recommendation. I’ve been using this app daily since April and it has helped me stay on track with a chronological “read through the Bible in a year” plan and I love the options for listening and reading along!

  4. She Reads Truth. So many options from books to a podcast to free printable plans. Check out the possibilities on their website and find a friend to read with you!

If we discover more great options, we will continue to post them on this page. Please let me know if you have any questions! (abby.karsten@thekirk.org) And as always, please consider finding a prayer/Bible reading partner for accountability and to share what you are learning!
